Burton and Helen Edwards

Burt and Helen Edwards Burt and Helen deeply loved this community for their close friendships and the opportunities they had to spend time outdoors, enjoy the water and embrace lifelong learning. In 1984, Burt began six years of service on the YMCA's board. Burt became a champion for developing the YMCA's Heritage Association, because he believed that the endowment was critical to sustaining our community's YMCA.

The Edwards were very intentional when planning ahead. They believed that charitable giving would continue to make a difference after they were gone and set up a living trust to transfer their assets to five charities in the Boothbay Region. Helen passed away in 2012 and was predeceased by Burt in 2005, but their planned giving created a legacy that will last forever in this community. Their gift to the Boothbay Region YMCA's endowment will payout over $25,000 annually in perpetuity, fulfilling both Burt's passion for sustaining the Y and Helen's commitment to ensure that all children can access the YMCA.
